Crime Scene Detectives

Students in 4th grade reading got the opportunity to become detectives in The Book Ending Mystery. Someone tore the endings and took out the labels from Mrs. Summermatter’s books. They also stole her binder so no one could check out books. Oh no! Who would do such a thing?

Monday, the students entered the classroom to find that Mrs. Summermatter’s classroom was turned into a crime scene, complete with caution tape, clues, and a giant who-done-it mystery.

Each student received a packet with a Detective’s Dictionary, case description, and case file. They also found alibis from Mrs. Vigna, Mrs. Valdes, Ms. Fiet, and Monty Lion (who were all reportedly at the scene of the crime around the time of the incident).

Each student sketched the crime scene and highlighted incriminating evidence in the alibis.

They formed their opinions about the real criminal in the case.

After sorting through all of the red herrings, students found a missed clue. It turned out to be Mrs. Padron who had left a riddle at the scene of the crime. Apparently she wanted the kids to read mystery books as part of the school-wide AR challenge for October. After confessing, Mrs. Padron received 3-5 years of hard labor as the media specialist. Case closed on this mystery J
